Biography

Stephen Skarlatos has over 25 years of software development expertise. He began by writing transaction based systems on Unisys mainframes to support State Medicaid programs. In the early 1980’s, Mr. Skarlatos joined a fledgling software consultancy that focused on transaction processing. During the next 23 years, the company grew to 150 consultants. In 1990 he led the research & development group that created the first ODBC based client solution for Unisys Mainframes. This product has gone on to support OLE-DB and two phase commit transactions using Microsoft’s distributed transaction system (MS MTS/DTC). This software is still in use across the world and is a Unisys OEM product which is shipped with OS2200 based ClearPath mainframes. Mr. Skarlatos’ responsibilities included supporting customer projects by providing: development methodology support, software development framework tool sets, architectural guidance and corporate infrastructure support. He has spoken at mainframe user conferences as well as at Microsoft’s Teched, and PDC conferences. Mr. Skarlatos also served on the Microsoft Architectural Advisory Board. His articles about two phase commit technologies and client/server computing have been published in trade journals. He publishes a personal blog, mydigitallife.us, which discusses issues and methods related to maximizing the use of the technology to enhance daily life. He is a contributing editor for the pocketnow.com website.

In 2006, Mr. Skarlatos started A&S Consulting, LLC to focus on providing management and architecture support to development, as well as infrastructure projects that require mobile solutions. He has recently been presented with the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional award (MVP) in the Visual Developer – Solutions Architect category for his expertise and community participation in the use of Microsoft technologies.
